Using Today's Meet to Enhance Socratic Seminars
Limited Capacity filling up

My partner Ann Marie Fratolillo and I will show how to run a Socratic Seminar (student-run discussion) using Today's Meet, to facilitate involvement of all students. We will discuss how we've used it, how it can be extended beyond the classroom, etc.  To model the process, we will host a Socratic during the session on using technology in the classroom. To prepare for the session, feel free to visit this link:   and consider how/why you use technology in the classroom, and if you have any concerns about it. In addition, we will provide copies of the Goals & Rubric for Socratic.

Pre-reading is not necessary; we will provide access to the article at the session as well.

Library Drab to Media Center Fab
Limited Capacity seats available

Does your library struggle to attract students? Traditional libraries do not attract today’s digital learners. Three years ago, the library in our middle school was known as the quiet place where you go when you need a book for a research project. Students didn’t even know how to find the book they were looking for, and internet searches were discouraged. Now, on a typical day, students are packed into the media center before and after school to socialize, use their personal devices, meet with clubs, or just to study. We have rearranged furniture, purchased devices like Chromebooks and iPads, developed new courses for students, created an after school haven, and even changed the typical “library rules.” As an instructional technologist, English teacher, and manager of the new media center, I will share with you the steps it took to get here, and the plans we have for the future. Bring the POWER of Making into your Classroom
Limited Capacity seats available

Welcome! The Maker Movement is not just about making stuff but making meaning  (@Laurafleming). Our 7Gr Spanish teachers were willing to give the maker magic a try by bringing the Spanish + Scratch + Makey Makey Project to their classrooms. Students had to code a basic game in Scratch that included audio recordings and text in Spanish and also, design a game controller with Makey Makey kit to match. The student payoff was HUGE! These types of projects can easily work cross-curriculum.  Attendees will get hands-on experience walking through this process! You too can feel the power of the MAKER!

Cruising into Coding with Pro-Bots
Limited Capacity filling up

Thanks to a grant from the MCPE Dale Street School has been running a pilot program integrating 50 Pro-Bots into fourth and fifth grade classrooms. Are you looking for a robotic to use in your classroom that doesn't require an app or device to run it? Pro-bots are the answer for you! Pro-Bot is a turtle robot, cleverly disguised as a race car. This device offers students an enticing, engaging, and hands-on experience with programming and geometric concepts. Pro-Bot commands are entered via a set of arrow and number keys mounted on the back of the device. Plan a route for Pro-Bot using distance and degree measures on the keypad controls. Come to my session to learn about these robots, their basic functions, how to program them, and PLAY!
